Olympic Training Center – Colorado Springs

Hey everyone its Dr. Joseph Vear your Denver Chiropractor, I wanted to share a great experience I had getting to work alongside some amazing individualizes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. It was truly one of the coolest and mind blowing experiences I have ever got to witness in my life and I owe a special thanks to my good buddy Brandon Sikael, new friends Heather Linden and Dr. Dustin Nabhan for making it all happen. I have got to experience a once in a life time opportunity working alongside some of the most brilliant minds in their professions in athletic care, injury treatment and rehabilitation.

Hanging with Heather & Brandon

While at the center I had the opportunity to participate in some ground breaking research that is being done by Dr. Dustin Nabhan on hamstring tendon length and its possible implication on susceptibility to tear utilizing diagnostic ultrasound. I also had the pleasure to experience first hand the day to day operations that go on at the Colorado training facility and how to properly and effectively care for Olympic level athletes. It is safe to say that without the hard work and dedication of our USA medical staff, that we as a nation would not be where we are today as the most dominate and well recognized country every recorded in USA Olympic history, this past RIO summer Olympics. The following pictures are just a snapshot into my amazing experience at the Olympic Training Center here at Colorado Springs.

YMCA Community Programs Branch: Serving our Community

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share that my wife and I have just been excepted to be apart of something special in our community!! We are now board members of the local YMCA community programs branch program at Manual High School here in the metropolitan Denver area. This is a great opportunity for both of us to give back to the community and help children and their family’s stay healthy and active by supporting local events and projects for them to attend at no cost. I have attached a copy of our annual campaign brochure CPB annual campaign brochure so that you can read up on our latest developments and also donate to a great cause if you so choose. We have some great ideas for 2017 and would love to bring them to the Denver area but could always use more supporters and donations to a great cause. I have also attached a link to our main YMCA web page for additional information on joining our cause.

Movement Screening at Cutthroat CrossFit

Hey everyone its your Denver Chiropractor, just wanted to keep you all up to date on the latest movement screening that I put on at Cutthroat CrossFit. We had a great turnout with individualizes looking to improve their movement and increase their performance in the gym. Here are some of the pictures from the event.

I believe it is vital for any athlete, weekend warrior or CrossFit competitor to have a proper movement assessment done prior to starting a training program. Having a movement assessment done properly before the start of a training program can provide many benefits for CrossFit athletes looking to improve their strength, technique and performance. By targeting these deficient movements with the screening procedure, the trainer or coach has a better understanding what areas of the body may need the most attention for their clients on an individualized basis.

I want to thank the owner of Cutthroat CrossFit Brian Bender for having me at his gym and allowing me to work with his athletes. I would also like to thanks Dr. David Newton for helping with the screening and making the day go very smooth and a thanks to my wife, Adrienne Vear for taking the photos.

I want to thank Dr. David Newton for organizing the team of professionals who provided care for the day and give a shout-out to some new friends I made at the event, Dr. Reid Nelles, Levi Faustino, Rachel Voyles and Christen Dybenko. Thank you guys for your support and I look forward to working with you all again in the future. Here are some of the pictures I have from working the Crossfit event this last weekend.

Shoulder Injury & Potential Causes

Shoulder pain is a growing concern of many athletes today. Despite the level of competition – whether you’re exercising to maintain your health, a professional athlete, or the parent of an active, young athlete – the activities in our daily lives that involve shoulder mobility are countless. This information this information can be vital to not only your performance but also your everyday function.

Effective shoulder function requires proper motion, stability, muscle performance and motor control. In order for this to happen, the brain and the body need to be on the same page from a neuromechanical standpoint, this is where chiropractic care can help. By removing subluxations/misalignment’s in the spine, our body’s ability to relay this communication is improved and therefore, muscle function and stability (proprioception) of the shoulder joint are as well. However, this may not be the only problem that someone is faced with when dealing with shoulder problems. The soft tissue around the shoulder including muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia also plays a vital role and therefore need to be addressed when treating someone with a shoulder complaint.

Altered shoulder motion can occur from a number of reasons, including but not limited to: injury, muscle imbalances/overcompensation, scar tissue, myofascial restrictions, overuse, nerve interference, improper training, atrophy, rib dislocation/subluxations and the list goes on. These issues, if not addressed, can lead to altered movement patterns and ultimately a laundry list of other problems. Here are just a few of these problems, shoulder impingement, rotator cuff injury, frozen shoulder, labral tear, thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS), osteoarthritis, bursitis, tynosynovitis, tendonitis, fibromyalgia and more.

The high complexity of this joint and its many muscular, ligamentous and myofascial attachments can create a nightmare of problems for any individual -, especially athletes trying to reach their peak performance. That is why it is extremely important for any individual who is or dealing with a shoulder complaint to seek appropriate help from a certified extremity expert when dealing with shoulder pain.

Here at True From Chiropractic, Dr. Joseph Vear has experience treating these issues, utilizing his training as a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP), Active Release Technique (ART) provider and Rock Tape specialist, not only can he help you reduce your pain, but increase movement, function and stability of the shoulder as well.
